Rana

Designed by

Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel

1951

The Rana chair was originally manufactured by
R. Wengler and exhibited at the 1951 Spring Arts and Crafts Exhibition at Charlottenborg. At that time, the malleability, lightness and friendly appearance of wicker were the subject of great attention. By using the old wicker craft in a new way, Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel succeeded in creating a distinctive way of connecting the seat and back into a coherent shell shape. The three-legged wicker chair sparked a rediscovery of the many qualities of rattan, and with international awards, wicker furniture gained a new status in interior design.
